Volunteers at Radio Addenbrooke's are holding a 12 hour broadcast on the 19th September 2009. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of the radio station and to raise funds for new equipment.
Lesley Gunn and Rosie Howell will be presenting a day of entertainment from 8am to 8pm for the patients of Addenbrooke's and the Rosie Maternity Hospitals. There will be a range of music from classical, jazz and country to pop music from the 60's through to the present day. There will also be special interviews from singer/songwriter - Jon Allen, poet - Jude Simpson, cricket development officer - Russell Doel and President of the Hospital Broadcasting Association - June Snowden. Musicians Sand Dollars and Alison Stephens will be performing live in the studio.
Radio Addenbrooke's is run by a team of enthusiastic volunteers who have brought music and chat to the bedside since 1954. As then, Radio Addenbrooke's exists through donations to provide its much-loved service. Richard Saunders, chairman of Radio Addenbrooke's said "We want to make patients' stay in hospital as comfortable as possible. If we can provide a distraction and bring a smile to a few faces then we have achieved our aim."
Radio Addenbrooke's volunteers regularly visit the wards and patients can also request their favourite music from their Hospedia unit, by calling *3181. Members of the public can request music for patients anytime on 01223 217181 or email requests@radioaddenbrookes.co.uk.
